Last night, right before I left work, I got an email in my yahoo inbox. I’m part of the DCTheatre group on there, so I get emails all the time. This one was a guy named Josh, who was looking for a teacher for his afterschool program in the area. He needed someone for an hour on Wednesdays to teach 8-10 year olds about theatre and help them put on a short play. Me, needing money, immediately responded. On my way to rehearsal, he called me and asked me if I could meet him the next morning (ie, today) and officially hire me. So I met him at Caribou Coffee this morning and we talked about the program and what he’s looking for, but he threw me through a loop about halfway through the conversation.
I’m doing this on my own. It’s my class.
I thought that I was going to be helping Josh with it, but that’s not the case. As scared as I am, he has faith in me that it’ll be a good class and that the kids will like it, and I think it’ll be okay. So today I’m going to go over to the elementary school and meet the kids for their first class. We’ll just be getting to know each other and going over the script, so I don’t think I can mess that up too badly. You’ll be hearing about this often, so check back!
Last night was my first rehearsal for The Spanish Tragedy in a while, and we did a stumble-through, which was interesting. I thought I had my lines down, but, as always, I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. Fortunately, I have rehearsal every night from now until we open. I think it’s going to be a great show, and I’m really excited about it. It’s been a great experience so far, and it’s really going to come together in the next couple of days and everyone will love it. So come see it if you can! www.rudemechanicals.com
Both of these quotes are from Og Mandino, and they definitely apply to today.
Confidence will take away your fear.
Consider each obstacle as a mere detour to your goal and a challenge to your profession.
Congrats! Teaching your own theater class is super exciting-you go Emma! See ‘09 is already on the way up!
