To have and to hold.

So here I am again, blogging. This is going to have a couple of purposes. One will be discussing my new life in Arlington, VA, including my job at Signature Theatre. The other will be my engagement and planning of my wedding. So here goes!

As many of you know, I recently got a job in the box office at Signature Theatre, which is in the Village of Shirlington. It’s right off 395, for those of you who haven’t been here. I’ve been here for almost 3 weeks, and already it’s been quite an experience. Ace, which is a new musical, has been running since I got here, and it’s got some big names in it. Emily Skinner, Jim Stanek, Jill Paice… they’ve all been running around the theatre and I’ve gotten to be pretty friendly with many of them. My first experience with the actors happened one night that Bobby and I came to see the show. It was a Tuesday, and it happened to be a discussion night. After that was over, we got a drink at the bar with Rachel, one of my co-workers, Richard Barth, who’s in the show, and Florence Lacey, who’s also in the show. We all got to talking, of course, and it turns out that Flo has worked in the most incredible places, including France and Itlay. She was also in the touring company of Hello, Dolly! when Carol Channing was playing Dolly. She and I have a lunch date on Thursday. Jim Stanek, of Lestat on Broadway fame, is one of the nicest people I’ve ever come across. He remembered that I’d helped him with some keys a few days before I introduced myself to him, and then we had a conversation about my sweater and how pink it was. Christiane Noll is also in the cast, and she’s got a couple of albums out, and was the singing voice of Anna in the animated The King & I. Yesterday I was at lunch, listening to my iPod, and “In His Eyes” came on, and when I looked down, there was Christiane’s name on my iPod. It was pretty cool. There are a few kids in the show, and I’ve gotten to be pretty good friends with them, too. William is always down here when he’s supposed to be doing his homework. Dalton and his brother are always on their scooters in the lobby. The job itself is also fun. I work in the box office, and selling tickets is my main job. It is MUCH more complex than when I was working at Lime Kiln… and so much better. There I was lucky if the phone rang 10 times in a day. Here that happens in about 15 minutes, especially now that Les Mis tickets have gone on sale to subscribers. It’s fun, and the people I work with are great. My apartment is the cutest thing ever, and it’s within walking distance of the theatre. So that’s my job!

Now, on to other business. If you’re on facebook, you probably know that Bobby and I are engaged to be married. This occurred on July 12, 2008. It was really cute, and so very characteristic of him. We went to dinner at Downtown 56, which is a very fancy restaurant in Harrisonburg. We had a very nice time, and then we got chocolate fondue for dessert, and at one point he told me that I’d gotten something on the Claddaugh ring I always wore on my left hand ring finger. He took it from me, and then told me that it wasn’t coming off and that I might have to replace it. When I asked with what, he put the black velvet box with the ring in it on the table and said I should replace it with that. I asked if he though I should, and he replied that he though I should marry him. Now, about 2.5 months into the engagement, we’re starting to think about actual plans. We’ve picked a date, which is April 10, 2010; it’s very exciting. Yesterday I went to a bridal show with Amber, my wedding planner, and got a lot of information about local vendors. My invitations are taken care of; my aunt, who is a graphic designer, agreed to do them. The cake is also taken care of; I have a friend who just graduated from culinary school, and he said he’d do the cake for us.

That’s really all for now. Do check back and I’ll try and update as much as I can.
